Are you looking for an experienced sworn Dutch - Chinese interpreter, for example, to help you in court, or with the execution of a deed at the notary’s office, to talk to a lawyer, the public prosecutor, the police, the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND), or the Royal Netherlands Military Constabulary (Koninklijke Marechaussee)? You’ve come to the right place! We also provide interpreting services in other areas from Dutch or English (if a sworn interpreter is not required) to Chinese.
Sworn interpreters must meet high quality and ethical standards. First, they have to take an exam. After passing the exam, they must take an oath at the court before they can register with the Register beëdigde tolken en vertalers (Rbtv) (Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators). They are then required to keep their knowledge up to date by satisfying the continuing education requirements for sworn interpreters. If they don’t satisfy the requirements or can’t show that they have worked the required number of hours as a sworn interpreter, their registration expires.
In addition to being sworn-in, they have the option of specialising in criminal law. In order to specialise, they must have interpreted a certain number of hours in court and be familiar with criminal law in both the source and target languages. They are also required to satisfy the continuing education requirements. Here too, their registration expires if they don’t meet the required number of interpreting hours in court or don’t take the right training courses.
